Capstone Project

The capstone is the final project completed for the Writing Minor. Students are allowed to pursue any project they choose, as long as it involves research and rigor. My classmates wrote fiction, children's books, "State of the Union" speeches, research about social media identity, and much more.

For my capstone project, I chose to create and execute a University of Michigan Bucket List. From eating "hippie hash" at Fleetwood Diner to singing karaoke at Charley's, I knew there were many things I needed to accomplish before I graduated. I hoped to record these memeories for myself, but also share Michigan bucket list ideas with other students and provide a platform for them to explore those ideas.

Each bucket list item is captured in multimedia: photos, video, and/or sound. A written summary of my experience completing the list item accompanies the media. That summary also contains research about each item. For example, before I painted “the rock” with friends (see photo), I wanted to understand: where did the rock come from, why is it a tradition, and how have other students interacted with it? (Read more about the research component of this project under this tab.) There’s also a reflection on the completion of the list, which explores ideas of nostalgia and the complex emotions of closing this chapter of my life.
